The historically grown holdings of the Murhard Library date back to the 19th century. Therefore, the arrangement of the media partly follows different classification systems than at the newer locations of the UB. Some of the books and journals are located in closed stacks, the current literature is mostly freely accessible. Electronic holdings of the University Library such as e-books, e-journals, etc. can be used at the computer workstations.

  • A large part of the media at the Brüder-Grimm-Platz location is freely accessible. When searching for individual signatures, please follow the guidance system.
  • Storeroom holdings and holdings that have been removed from storage due to renovation can be ordered via the catalog portal KARLA using the Internal Interlibrary Loan system. Holdings from the Brüder-Grimm-Platz location can also be ordered on site and via order slips as a stacks order.

The holdings at Brüder-Grimm-Platz are arranged according to different arrangement systems depending on their affiliation. They are partly freely accessible and partly housed in closed storage areas. For orientation, please use the overview map on the right.

Easily accessible on the edge of downtown Kassel, the Murhard Library building offers the charm of historic library spaces. With a view of the greenery of Murhard Park, there are numerous study spaces here for concentrated work alone or in small groups.

Due to renovation work, only the Hessian reading room and the reading room of the Special Collections Department on the first floor are currently available for use. Valuable historical holdings of the UB Kassel as well as valuable books from the interlibrary loan are made available for use here.

At the service desk you can get information on all questions concerning the use of the library. The collection shelves for ordered and reserved media are also located in the entrance area. Interlibrary loan orders are also issued here.

Two reader-printers are available for reading microfilms and microfiches. It is also possible to print out individual pages and save them on a USB stick or similar. Please make an appointment by telephone: +49 561-8047337.
