Publish&Read / Read&Publish agreements

Agreements exist with the following publishers. Members of the University of Kassel can publish their articles Open Access in the framework of these agreements.

  • Current contract period: 2025 - 2027
  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles Open Access in 71 hybrid subscription journals and 18 Gold Open Access journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.

  • Current contract period: 2024 - 2026
  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles Open Access in 25 hybrid subscription journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs as long as the nationwide annual article quota (2024: 556 articles, 2025: 574 articles, 2026: 590 articles) has not been reached.

  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles (research articles, review articles, rapid communications, brief reports, case reports) Open Access in 179 hybrid subscription journals and 199 Gold Open Access journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.

  • Current contract period: 2022 - 2026
  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles (research articles, but also book reviews and other article types) Open Access in 132 hybrid subscription journals and 46 Open Access journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.
  • Workflow: Submit your article using your University of Kassel email address so that the publisher can identify it as an eligible article. Open Access will then be selected automatically.

  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles (all research article types, but not book reviews, smaller articles, news, conference reports, etc.) Open Access in 28 hybrid psychological and psychiatric subscription journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.

  • Current contract period: 2026-2028
  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles (research articles and review articles) Open Access in 53 hybrid subscription journals and 23 Gold Open Access journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.

  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles (research articles and original papers, including analyses, articles, letters, brief communications, registered reports, resources, technical reports) Open Access in the journal Nature and 38 hybrid Nature-branded subscription journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.

  • Current contract period: 2024 - 2026
  • Arrangement: Corresponding authors of the University of Kassel can publish their articles Open Access in more than 2.000 hybrid subscription journals of the publisher (see below) without own costs.
  • Workflow: During the submission or publication process, eligible authors will be informed by the publisher about the existing publishing agreement. You can choose between different Creative Commons licenses (see also publisher's website).

Agreements with Gold Open Access and other publishers

Agreements exist with the following publishers. Articles in Gold OA or hybrid journals of these publishers can benefit from discounts on the article processing charges (APC).

  • Current contract period: 2024 - 2026
  • Arrangement: Articles by corresponding authors from the University of Kassel in Gold Open Access journals of this publisher that are invoiced centrally through our open access publication fund are eligible for a 10% discount on the regular APCs. Our funding conditions apply to (full or partial) funding from the OA fund.
  • Workflow: The University Library of Kassel is informed by the publisher about articles by corresponding authors from the University of Kassel and contacts them to clarify funding from our OA fund.
  • Journals: Titel list
  • Current contract period: 2025 - 2026
  • Arrangement: Articles by corresponding authors from the University of Kassel in Gold Open Access journals of this publisher that are invoiced centrally through our open access publication fund are eligible for a 30% discount on the regular APCs. Articles which are paid by the authors or their departments / institutes receive a 15% discount. Our funding conditions apply to (full or partial) funding from the OA fund.
  • Workflow: The University Library of Kassel is informed by the publisher about articles by corresponding authors from the University of Kassel and contacts them to clarify funding from our OA fund.

  • Current contract period: September 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026
  • Agreement: Articles by corresponding authors from the University of Kassel in Gold Open Access or hybrid journals of this publisher are eligible for a 25% discount on the regular APCs. Our funding conditions apply to (full or partial) funding from the OA fund. Articles in hybrid journals are not eligible for funding from our OA fund and must be paid by the authors or their departments / institutes.

Diamond Open Access initiatives

Via the following initiatives Kassel University Library participates in the financing of pure Open Access journals that do not charge authors for publishing articles (so-called Diamond Open Access).
