The Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Learning Research: Didactics of the English Language uses its own e-portfolio via the department's Moodle platform as part of the practical semester.
❗ Important note: Entries in the Mahara portfolio will only be taken into account if they completely match the content of the e-portfolio valid at the department, i.e. if they contain identical content, tasks and references for reflection. The department is not in favor of using the general Mahara tool unless it contains subject-specific guiding questions and guidelines. The content and reflection questions provided there are generally geared towards general pedagogy, have no sustainable connection to subject-specific didactic theories or empirical research in foreign language didactics and therefore do not enable in-depth, subject-specific reflection, as is required in English.
In addition, there is a practical and equality-relevant aspect: not all students have a suitable end device (e.g. laptop/tablet) or a continuously stable internet connection in the school during the lesson visits or immediately afterwards. Since the intended use of Mahara requires reliable online availability, this leads to structural hurdles and unequal conditions for prompt documentation and reflection.
The portfolio in English is an independent examination achievement. It is based on a subject-specific phase model and is designed, supervised and assessed exclusively by teachers of English didactics. The use of general, non-subject-specific portfolio structures is not compatible with this, as it does not adequately reflect the subject, objectives and assessability of the examination.
