The aim of the project is to investigate and evaluate the influence of location, variety, and plant cultivation measures on the processing quality of potatoes in organic farming. The project is designed as a cooperative project with the Department of Organic Agriculture of the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel and the Institute of Organic Agriculture of the Johann Henrich von Thünen Institute in Trenthorst. The project part of the Department of Organic Agriculture and Crop Production includes field trials on the teaching and experimental farm of the University of Kassel, the Hessian State Domain Frankenhausen and the BIOLAND farm Meyerhof Schreiber zu Belm, near Osnabrück.

The field trials are designed to evaluate the influence of variety, location, previous crop, planting preparation, maintenance measures and fertilization on yield and suitability of organically produced potatoes for further processing by industry, at harvest and after storage (8° C).

Quality testing of the tubers from the field trials will be contracted out to the Institute for Cereal Safety and Quality of the Max Rubner Institute in Detmold, which has the necessary pilot facilities for this purpose.
