Subproject: C- and N-turnover processes

The aim of the overall project is to characterize transient and persistent effects of annual legume species(Vicia faba L., Pisum sativum L., Lupinus albus L.) on C and N turnover processes and the structure of the soil microbial community in vessel and laboratory experiments. These turnover processes will be studied with particular emphasis on C and N inputs from rhizodeposition and harvest residues of the three grain legume species. The project is designed as a cooperative project with the Institute of Soil Ecology of the GSF in Oberschleißheim. Vessel and incubation experiments are planned in two experiments that are linked in terms of content. In the first experiment, the influence of legume roots on the C- and N-mineralization behavior of soil organic matter will be tested with a vessel compartmented into rhizosphere areas. In the second experiment, the influence of the roots of the subsequent crop and the preceding influence of the legume roots on their residue turnover are investigated in a simulated crop rotation and on the basis of a parallel incubation experiment.
