APPLI - Applied Psychology for Practical Learning in an Engineering Context

As part of the course „Fundamentals of Psychology for Engineering“, funding for innovative teaching methods from the Central Teaching Fund of the University of Kassel was successfully applied for. For the next delivery of the course in the Winter Semester 26/27, socratic chatbots are to be developed to help students with the asynchronous learning of lecture contents. Socratic chatbots do not only provide answers to questions, but also ask targeted counter-questions in order to stimulate engagement with a topic and enable independent problem-solving. In addition, the chatbots can identify student misconceptions and react in a corrective manner. Furthermore, the lecture uses two fictional characters who guide students through the topics of the course using everyday and professional case studies, thereby facilitating the transfer to engineering and transport systems. Through the use of digital technologies and case-based scenarios, practical, interdisciplinary-oriented teaching is established that enables students to apply psychological knowledge in their future professional field.
