I am a general sociologist and empirical researcher with the main areas of work in

  • Higher Education and Science Studies
  • Sociology of Knowledge
    • sociology of conventions / orders of worth (Boltanski and Thévenot), and
    • interactive and multi-scalar knowledge conversion and transfer (e.g., in economically underdeveloped regions in Germany and Sub-Sahara Africa)
  • qualitative, quantitative and merged / mixed methods (e.g., bibliometrics, computational social sciences, content analysis, cross-country comparison, interviews and surveys)

Since 2009, Christian works at INCHER. From 2012-2023, he was coordinator of research on "Innovation und Transfer." Since October 2023, Christian is co-principal investigator of two third party funded research projects:

From October 2020 to September 2021, Christian was invited visiting professor for „Sociology, Methods and Techniques of Empirical Social Research,“ Institute for Sociology, RWTH Aachen University. From January 2020 to December 2022, I was associate editor of Studies in Higher Education.
