The University of Kassel's mail and groupware services enable centralized communication and collaboration via email, calendars and address books. The service supports the efficient organization of everyday university life and facilitates the exchange between students, lecturers and staff.

Responsibility

The IT Service Center (ITS) of the University of Kassel is responsible for the provision and operation of the mail and groupware services.

Description

The University of Kassel provides all members with a central email inbox that can be used in various ways, including webmail and email programs such as Microsoft Outlook. Groupware functions such as calendar and address book management are also supported.

Alternatives

There is currently no official alternative to the University of Kassel's central mail and groupware service. Although external e-mail services can be used privately, they are not intended or supported for official communication.

Functions

  • E-mail communication: Sending and receiving e-mails with a university address.

  • Calendar management: Personal and shared calendars for organizing appointments and events.

  • Address book: Access to a central directory of all employees and functional addresses, such as secretariats.

  • Synchronization: Access to emails, calendars and contacts via various end devices (PC, smartphone, tablet).

  • Delegation: possibility of having calendars or mailboxes managed by other people.

Prerequisites

  • PC or laptop with current operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux)

  • Internet connection

  • Email client such as Microsoft Outlook or access to webmail via web browser

  • For use via Microsoft Outlook:

    • Outlook version from 2016 recommended

    • Set up the account using the autodiscover function

    • Enter university email address and password

Account and login

All university members automatically receive an ITS account when they enrol or are hired.

  • Login: Account name and the corresponding password. For Microsoft Outlook, the addition "its-ad\" is used.

  • Access options:

    • Via the webmail interface in the browser: https: //mail.uni-kassel.de

    • Via Microsoft Outlook (under Windows and macOS)

    • Via mobile devices (e.g. smartphones with a mail app)

Data protection and security

The University of Kassel operates the mail and groupware services on internal university servers. Access is encrypted (TLS/SSL) to ensure the confidentiality of communication. Legal notices and license information

Use of the service is reserved exclusively for members of the university and is tied to membership of the University of Kassel. Use for commercial purposes outside of university operations is not permitted. The university's IT usage guidelines apply.
