Cases and Debates in Project Management and Transformation

Number/CodeWP-CDPMT / WP-SK-CDPM
Module name Cases and Debates in Project Management and Transformation
Type of moduleCompulsory elective module (production engineering and ergonomics / human-organization technology)
Learning outcomes, competencies (qualification objectives)After completing the module, students will be able to identify complex project management issues in the context of digital transformation, critically analyze relevant theories and methods and evaluate their applicability. They can select suitable research and analysis methods, plan, carry out and document a scientifically sound term paper and present results clearly and appropriately. In addition, they are able to compare different points of view and represent them in a well-founded manner, obtain and implement constructive feedback and organize their work process independently and in a goal-oriented manner. They recognize gaps in their own knowledge and close them through targeted further training. In this way, they acquire the skills to understand complex project topics from different perspectives, make well-founded judgments and develop practical and research-relevant solutions.

Course content

The module deepens selected questions, theoretical concepts and methods or case studies in the field of project research. Building on the theoretical and methodological foundations acquired in other modules, students work independently on an individually tailored topic. The work is closely supervised in terms of content and methodology by lecturers in the subject area.

The course content includes

  • In-depth examination of current scientific and practice-oriented issues in project management.
  • Analysis and discussion of selected case studies ("Cases") and critical reflection and debate ("Debates") on controversial topics and innovative approaches in project research.
  • Development and preparation of a scientifically sound term paper on a specific project topic.

Exemplary topics:

  • Requirements of digital transformation in general and artificial intelligence in particular for project work and project organization.
  • Acceptance and implementation of new technologies in the project context.
  • Motivation, retention and leadership of project team members.
  • Conflict management and mediation in projects.
  • Development and management of inter-organizational project cooperation.
