Sustaining knowledge

The UniArchives was founded in 2021 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the university as an Office of the University Library. The foundation of the collection is formed by the founding files of the university, which were returned to Kassel from the Hessian State Archives in Marburg in 2022. Since May 1, 2023, the UniArchives has been staffed professionally and full-time.

The UniArchives

- identifies archive material of the committees, the Central University Administration, the central facilities, the Faculties and student life

- secures the acquired documents permanently and in a legally secure manner

- indexes the archive material and makes it available to researchers, students and interested parties

- provides an infrastructure for digital archiving

- offers members the archiving of research data and bequests and estates in accordance with a documentation profile

- provides information from the files

- advises university employees on questions of analog and digital records management

- participates in the introduction of a document management system

- supports scientific and historical research projects

- offers a contact point for all questions relating to university history

The UniArchive is a member of the Hessian University Archives Working Group and the North Hesse Archives Working Group

Students and school pupils can complete an internship to gain an insight into all areas of activity in a public archive:

• Evaluation and acquisition of documents from the central administration and the Faculties of the University of Kassel
• Rehousing and demetallization of documents
• Indexing documents in the archive information system Arcinsys
• Processing inquiries from users
• Support for users
• Storage service

You are welcome to agree the duration of the internship with us; in principle, it is possible to arrange your working hours flexibly.
