Exploding food prices, high energy costs and collective wage agreements that at least provide some relief for employees, but cause staff costs to rise permanently: In order to counteract this, the Administrative Board of the Studierendenwerk Kassel decided to increase the canteen prices in two stages.

From September 2, the prices for all meals, additional side dishes and salads will rise by 10 to 30 cents, and from March 3, 2025, meal 1 and the maxi menu consisting of four side dishes will be another 10 cents more expensive.

Depending on canteen status, lunch will cost more from September:

• Meal 1 (vegan): Students 2.70 euros - Staff 4.70 euros - Guests 8 euros
• Meal 2: students 3.50 euros - staff 5.50 euros - guests 8.80 euros
• Meal 3: students 4.80 euros - staff 6.80 euros - guests 10.10 euros
• Per 100 grams of salad at the salad bar: students 1.20 euros - staff 1.70 euros - guests 2.50 euros
• Each additional side dish: students 1 euro - staff 1.20 euro - guests 1.20 euro
• Mini side dish menu (= 2 side dishes) for students: 1.50 euros
• Maxi side dish menu (= 4 side dishes) for students: 2.70 euros

Christa Ambrosius, Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk: "Nobody is happy when prices go up. But saving even more would only be possible with a massive loss of quality or painfully reduced offers."
