As a member of the university, it is important to understand information security and to behave in a security-conscious manner in order to protect personal data and confidential information.
At university, you may be exposed to various threats, including phishing emails, malware infections, data leaks and identity theft. It is important to be aware of these potential threats and know how to protect yourself against them.
Phishing emails are fraudulent emails that pretend to come from trusted sources in order to steal personal information. Watch out for suspicious requests for personal or financial information and report suspicious emails immediately to the University of Kassel's Information Security.
If you think you have been the victim of a cyber-attack (e.g. malware infection or identity theft), report the incident immediately to the University of Kassel's Information Security and follow their instructions for further investigation and resolution of the problem.
Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to encrypt your internet connection and protect your data from potential attackers. Avoid transmitting confidential information over insecure Wi-Fi networks and make sure you log out of public networks when you no longer need them. Make sure that your system has antivirus software and keep it up to date to close known security gaps. Be careful when downloading files from unknown sources and do not use any unauthorized or unverified apps.
