The building, designed by architects Müller & Stach, will be used as a learning and reception area for students as well as a central reception building for events in the Gießhaus. The days of break-time discussions and catering in the draughty corridors have finally come to an end. A large sliding door opens the building to the outside, allowing students to study in the open air during the summer months and stay outside during events.

There is no need for complex ventilation technology inside the building; instead, independently opening ventilation panels ensure that the room is supplied with fresh air. Access is secured against unauthorized persons by means of curtain-type expanded metal grilles, so that the windows can be used for night-time cooling in summer.

In winter, the building is heated by an energy-efficient underfloor heating system, which in turn is monitored and controlled by a modern building management system. The roof was insulated for high energy efficiency and then greened to make a small contribution to preventing the campus from heating up in the summer months.

New paving stones were only laid on the outside where absolutely necessary; the inner façade was retained, another small contribution to the resource-conserving use of existing building materials.

Power sockets on the pillars and in the lower area of the bench specially made by the university workshops ensure that laptops or cell phones can be recharged quickly if their batteries run out, but can also be used during catering events.

The lighting concept provides for lighting that can be adapted to suit the respective use, the central lighting fixtures are dimmable, and lights for effect lighting are "hidden" behind the bench and in the outdoor area.

Should this be desired in the future, it is possible to equip the room with a large screen, for example, to enable broadcasts of events from the Gießhaus. And yes, of course, a centrally located W-LAN router enables access to the intranet of the University of Kassel and the Internet.

The building is not yet completely finished and, in addition to minor electrical work, still requires approval for general use by the building inspectorate, but the room can probably be used for events on a trial basis from mid-January.

A separate booking as an event room is not possible, as the room is primarily intended to be used as a place of learning. The room has fixed seating and access to the room and the adjoining terrace is barrier-free. Information on occupancy will be posted at the entrance to the room.
