From idea to start-up - take part in the UNIKAT ideas competition until February 28

"A head full of ideas? Make something of it!" Under this motto, the university is calling on all academics, employees, students and alumni to take part in the university's internal UNIKAT Ideas Competition 2025/26. The competition, initiated by UniKasselTransfer, aims to develop innovative entrepreneurial solutions and strengthen the diversity of ideas at the University of Kassel.

The competition is a central component of the university's efforts to bring research and innovation to society - and to promote the implementation of entrepreneurial ideas.
The competition is aimed at anyone who does not want to leave their innovative product and service ideas in a drawer, but wants to take the first steps towards implementation.
Whether a new agricultural technology Witzenhausen, a digital learning coach for students or a sustainable material concept from engineering - there is space here for innovative ideas from all disciplines.

Participants present their ideas in a structured, maximum three-page description - including innovation potential, target group and initial implementation steps. Each idea receives summarized feedback from the experts from business practice with individual tips. The best ideas will be pitched to a jury of experts and presented and awarded prizes at a ceremony on May 19.

Attractive prizes totaling 6,000 euros are up for grabs. "But the prizes are not the decisive factor. The real benefit lies in the concrete further development through individual feedback, constructive expert tips and direct access to networks and start-up support from the university," says Jörg Froharth, Head of Start-up Consulting.

"Many scientific start-ups first formulated their initial idea at the UNIKAT ideas competition. It is the ideal starting point: regardless of whether the idea is still small or already ripe for implementation. Those who take part are not just taking a step forward - they are starting a journey that goes far beyond the competition," adds Gabriele Hennemuth, who is organizing this year's UNIKAT Ideas Competition.

The UNIKAT ideas competition is open to scientists, employees, students and alumni of the University of Kassel as well as pupils of the North Hesse School Research Center.

The closing date for this year's UNIKAT ideas competition is 28.02.2026.
