Staff Council Newsletter: Information on the Civil Clause

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted that so many of you accepted our invitation to the staff meeting. Despite the short notice, around 120 of you were in Lecture Hall III on June 30 to learn about the civil clause and the planned amendment to the Basic Regulations and to discuss this topic with us.

The feedback we received regarding the meeting was extremely varied: ranging from expressions of gratitude for the valuable and objectively presented information to the impression that the debate was too one-sided—in both directions.

We have posted the slides from the opening presentation on our website, especially for those of you who were unable to attend the staff meeting. Some of the slides have been expanded slightly because they would otherwise be difficult to understand without the accompanying spoken text.

We stated at the beginning of the meeting that this gathering could only serve as an initial briefing and that we need more time to allow employees to form their own opinions.

At the Senate meeting on July 1, the employee representatives (as well as the student body) therefore strongly requested that the vote be postponed. Following an extensive debate, this postponement was granted. The vote is now scheduled to take place at the Senate meeting on November 4, 2026.

In the meantime, additional informational sessions are scheduled to take place, and we will keep you informed of these in a timely manner.

Until then, we send our warm regards

Your Staff Council
