Telephony
Overview
1. basic information
The IP-based telephone system allows office workstations to be equipped with a fixed telephone connection and integrated into business communications. Voice transmission no longer takes place via traditional telephone lines, but via the university's data network - a technology known as a convergent fixed network connection. It combines telephony and network in a common infrastructure.
Employees with a business need can apply for a landline connection. The prerequisite is an existing network connection at the workplace.
The IT Service Center is responsible for providing, setting up and operating the telephony infrastructure.
2. brief description
The telephone system is based on Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and combines classic telephone functions with modern network technology. In addition to pure voice communication, additional functions such as forwarding, voicemail or conference calls are possible.
As an alternative to landline telephony, the use of mobile telephony can also be examined under certain conditions - for example in the home office or for mobile workplaces.
3. main functions
- Voice communication: Reliable, business availability via a dedicated phone number.
- Voicemail: Voicemail box with optional e-mail notification.
- Call forwarding: Flexible control of incoming calls.
- Central telephone number management: Consistent allocation and maintenance of telephone numbers in the university network.
4th deployment scenario
A member of secretarial staff uses the telephone line for daily communication with students, external partners and internal contacts.
An academic forwards his business number to voicemail or to a deputy when he is absent.
5. technical requirements
A network connection (LAN) at the workstation is mandatory. A compatible IP telephone is also provided or approved. Installation is carried out by the IT service center or authorized service providers.

You can apply for a telephone connection using the form on the IT Service Center website. Approval by the organizational unit is required. The connection is tied to the person and the workstation, and a separate application must be made to take it with you if you move rooms.
