Unlimited or self-determined? Working time issues at university

An event organized by GEW, ver.di and Hilfskräfterat

Tuesday, 25.11., 4-6 p.m.

Room 0150/0160, ZUB (Gottschalkstraße 28a)

Universities have their own rhythm. Employees' working hours and the workload they have to cope with have to adapt to this rhythm. For some, this leads to working hours outside of the usual rhythm of kindergartens, supermarkets or the working hours of partners. It leads to overtime and the blurring of working hours. Others are faced with a high concentration of work and have to structure their lives around the requirements of mobile work, shift work or core working hours.
Working time issues at the university therefore affect all groups of employees, from students to administrative and technical staff to academic employees. Between autonomy and overload, the path to real working time sovereignty is not easy to find.
We therefore want to discuss the working time realities and their challenges at the university, what legal framework currently applies, what changes are needed and what experiences there are at the University of Marburg and the University of Potsdam with corresponding service agreements for administrative-technical as well as academic employees and student employees.

Our speakers are Stefani Sonntag (GEW, University and Research Officer), Mathis Heinrich (ver.di, Chairman of the Staff Council, University of Marburg) and Thomas Hardwig (Cooperation Office Universities and Trade Unions, University of Göttingen).
