1.When a death becomes known
- The relevant (academic) department should submit an ad text to the Human Resources and Organization Department (Cornelia Bischof or, in her absence, Stefanie Höhmann).
Due to the ad format, the text (excluding signatures) must not exceed 750 characters, including spaces. Templates for the ads are available from Cornelia Bischof.
- Upon learning of a death, the Communications and Marketing Office must also be notified immediately.

The draft text for each (specialized) field is based on the idea that the necessary information is available there and that the deceased was known to the department, allowing for a more personal tribute.
The obituaries pre-formulated by the (academic) departments include, in addition to the dates of birth and death:
- the deceased’s time at the University of Kassel
- field(s) of activity
- special contributions/special acknowledgments
- Relationships with colleagues and students
- Words of condolence for the family of the deceased
The email to the Human Resources and Organization Department should include, in addition to the text, the desired publication date (ideally coinciding with the obituary notice).
3.Circulation and publication
Circulation
Before publication, obituaries are circulated for review to the Communications and Marketing Office, the Head of the Human Resources and Organization Department, the Chancellor, the President, and, if applicable, the student body representatives.
They are signed by the President; by the Dean in the case of Professors; or by the President and the Staff Council in the case of support staff.Publication
The obituaries appear in the HNA.
The format of the obituaries is standardized and is generally 90 mm x 80 mm. The costs, currently around 600 euros, are borne by the (departmental) cost center.4.Procedure for special cases
In special cases—for individuals who were former university officials or who were of particular significance to the university—the Executive Board commissions the university administration to place an obituary.
In such cases, the process is handled by the Communications and Marketing Office, which should be notified immediately at presse[at]uni-kassel[dot]de and will coordinate obituaries, press inquiries, and the text of the obituary.
The costs are charged to the Executive Board’s budget account.
The decision on whether the university administration places an obituary rests with the Executive Board.
