January 18, 2025 - Demo against the right

Invitation from the organizer (Kassel against the right):

Dear fellow human beings,
we cordially invite you to take part in a demonstration registered by Kassel gegen Rechts and to support us by sharing the call for a demonstration.

The demonstration will start on January 18, 2025 at 1 p.m. on Friedrichsplatz in Kassel and calls for a loud and unmistakable commitment to the basic democratic values of humanity, solidarity and diversity, even one year after the Correctiv research.

We believe that this is best achieved by joining forces and working together with many initiatives and alliances.
Let's work together for a better future - in solidarity and with determination!

About Kassel against the right: We are an open, non-partisan, civil society alliance.
We are committed to a democratic and diverse society and the observance of human rights.
We have founded ourselves to resolutely oppose hatred and agitation, inhuman thinking, anti-democratic ideas and their normalization. We reject all forms of discrimination.

Please note: Party flags are not permitted at the demonstration. National flags should also not be displayed.
Because humanity and solidarity are not a question of nationality.
In January we will send you updated information on which institutions, alliances etc. support our call.

Best regards
Kassel gegen Rechts

our participation:

The ver.di works group at the University of Kassel took part in the demonstration against the right. Together with numerous other organizations, initiatives and committed citizens, we sent a powerful signal for democracy, diversity and tolerance.

Why we were there

Anchoring democratic values is a central concern of our work as a ver.di works group. We see it as our responsibility to actively stand up for a society that is free from discrimination, hatred and exclusion. Especially in times when right-wing movements are becoming ever louder and more present, it is important to take a clear stance.

Our motives:

  1. Solidarity: Trade unions traditionally stand for cohesion and mutual support. Racism and right-wing extremism are incompatible with these basic principles.
  2. Protection of democracy: The fundamental rights we fight for, such as freedom of expression, co-determination and equal treatment, are threatened by right-wing ideologies. Democratic achievements cannot be taken for granted - we must defend them.
  3. University as a place of diversity: People from different cultures and backgrounds work and learn together at the University of Kassel. We are committed to ensuring that the university remains a safe place where diversity is lived and valued.
  4. Culture of remembrance: Learning from history also means actively working against forgetting injustice and persecution. This is particularly important in Kassel, a city with a turbulent history.

Strong cohesion

Our participation in the demonstration was not only a statement, but also a moment of cohesion.

We would like to thank everyone who took to the streets with us and set an example for a fairer and open-minded society. Let's continue to stand up for democracy and diversity together!
