Many people are bothered by the fact that men are much more frequently invited to conferences as experts or interviewed by the media. There is no biological reason for this: men are not smarter than women. Anyone who points out this discrepancy is usually told that there wasn't a suitable woman* available. The organisers of the speakers’ list are convinced that there are far more capable women out there than those who actually take part in public speaking. Girls need female role models; women need the assurance that a different – their own – perspective on an issue is just as relevant. Events need greater diversity.
The list of female speakers aims to increase the visibility of women wherever public speaking takes place. The list of female speakers makes it easier for event organisers to find female experts for their events. At the same time, it actively encourages women to speak more frequently and publicly about the topics they are passionate about.
The platform was created by 8 women with the support of 4 coaches as a learning project of the Rubymonstas, a learning group of the Rails Girls Berlin.
