The course for a successful academic career is set early on. Groups that are discriminated against in the academic system due to gender, sexual orientation, social or ethnic origin, religion or other characteristics sometimes face major challenges in this regard. Mentoring programmes, with their opportunities to expand skills, network or share experiences, increase the sense of self-efficacy and promote personal development and decision-making. In this way, the career and promotion opportunities of highly qualified scientists can be increased, the visibility of the skills and potential of scientists can be raised and intergenerational exchange in career issues and leadership roles can be supported.
The Mentoring Hessen programme is aimed at women in the transitional phases from studying to a professorship or a professional or management position in science or business and consists of mentoring, training and networking. Mentoring Hessen is a collaborative project of the Hessian universities and universities of applied sciences and cooperates closely with companies and non-university research institutions. As part of the mentoring programme, workshops and networking events are offered to promote personal development and decision-making in the face of diverse career options.
