(Gender) equality is a quality criterion and essential in the academic system. With this in mind, the Gender Equality Consulting project was carried out from 2017 to 2019 as a research collaboration between the central Women's and Equality Officer (Dr. Sylke Ernst) and a sociology department (Prof. Dr. Mechthild Bereswill). It seeks to expand existing equality structures and anchor them in the organisational culture in the long term.
In 2019, the round table "Gleichstellungsperspektiven im Wissenschaftssystem der Universität Kassel"(Gender equality perspectives in the academic system at the University of Kassel) took place. Professors from various Faculties discussed their own professional biographical experiences of discrimination in front of an interested audience and discussed gender equality concepts, gender equality work and specific future prospects at the University of Kassel.
The results were published scientifically and prepared as precise impulses for action "Gleichstellung als gemeinsamer Diskurs"(Equality as a common discourse). This was intended to expand the options for action of actors at the University of Kassel in the field of research.
Since then, the project has been continued in the context of advising the Faculties: The Equality Office and the Equal Opportunity Committee advise on the integration of equality and diversity into the Faculties' structural plans and support the implementation of decentralised equality and diversity measures.
