Objective

Prevention of sexualized violence in university sports

Brief description

As part of a project on ‘Preventing sexualised violence in university sports’, the university sports team at the University of Münster founded a working group together with the sports department of the General Student Committee in 2019. Various measures were developed on the basis of a concept developed by the working group. The basis for this included the concepts and guidelines developed by the German Sports Youth for the prevention of sexualised violence in sport. The aim is to prevent incidents through sensitisation, transparency, cooperation and clear regulations.
In addition to taking a stance against all forms of discrimination and violence and for respectful interaction with one another through the mission statement, the working group has developed a declaration of commitment for the more than 600 coaches and university sports staff, which has been a fixed component of the fee agreement for coaches since summer 2020. In addition, a contact scale was developed to give people who have no idea about a certain sport an initial impression of how much physical contact is involved in the sport in question.
