Biases can occur in appointment procedures, which may influence the process as distorting effects. The interactive self-learning module on biases in appointment procedures, with a focus on gender biases, is aimed at members of appointment committees. It was developed as part of a collaborative project between the Technical University of Berlin and the Berlin University of the Arts, and was funded by the Berlin Programme for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching.
How the training works: You will accompany a fictional appointments committee during an appointment process. In situations where bias might arise, the discussion will be paused. You will be given three options to respond. An explanatory video will then follow, reflecting on your decision.
The training lasts approximately 40–60 minutes and consists of nine animated scenes, available in both German and English.
