Up to now extant literature provides only an incomplete picture of the barriers that hinder SMEs from adopting crowdsourcing and ‐working. Because of these incomplete insights on this phenomenon there is also a great deal of uncertainty on how to overcome these barriers. In the scope of an interview series with 15 SMEs we explore a range of different barriers. In a second round of interviews with crowdsourcing and ‐working experts (Delphi study) we reveal strategies that may help SMEs to overcome these barriers. After the task is completed, the crowdworker and the company do not collaborate anymore. To identify the best-suited crowdwoker for a certain task, crowd working platform providers offer different tools to match both parties. Matching a crowdworker with the required skills for a task is an important factor to complete a crowdworking campaign successfully. As of today, the principal agent theorem and high transaction costs decrease the effectiveness of such campaigns due to information asymmetries between crodworkers and crowdsourcers. However, the anonymous and financially incentivized nature of crowdworkers creates information asymmetries and conflicts of interest, leading to inefficiencies and intensifying the principal-agent problem. Our paper offers a solution to the widespread problem of inefficient Crowdworking campaigns. We first derive the currently applied Crowdworking campaign process based on a qualitative study. Subsequently, we identify the broadest adverse selection and moral hazard problems in the process. We then analyze how the blockchain application of smart contracts can counteract those challenges and develop a process model that maps a Crowdworking campaign using smart contracts. We explain how our developed process significantly reduces adverse selection and moral hazard at each stage. The shortage of skilled workers has demonstrated the need to identify suitable candidates for jobs and to develop existing employees. However, human resources processes rely on resumes, references, or job certifications to assess their employees’ skills. A few years ago, the concept of a digital twin was introduced, which is a digital replica of a physical entity. While using blockchain, the digital twin technology offers tremendous potential for transfer to other contexts. In the context of these considerations, we present a framework that allows the technology of the digital twin to be combined with that of skill assessment to create an enhanced skill profile. With a job market signaling perspective, we integrate knowledge about skills, clarify the opportunities of assessment, and develop a framework for a digital skill twin. In doing so, we argue that the multi-source and multi-method approach of such a digital skill twin leads to increased validity, reliability, and standardization. The human food system and international sustainability advice are both global in scope. Whereas food practices are locally situated and personal. ReThinking Food grapples with this challenge, using co-creative citizen science and the Future 50 Foods Report. The research involves cooking with; sharing food, recipes and stories; surveys, interviews, online and in-person activities. Through these actions, participants exchange knowledges with the food, their families and each other; become agents of change in their social groups and workplaces. They enact agency, shifting scales from human to non- human; near to far; from one-to-few-to-many. Building on this insight, we propose a hybrid engagement strategy for fostering connections across scales, from the personal to the planetary.
