Objective

Recognition of scientific achievements as well as awareness-raising and promotion of gender equality issues

Brief description

Despite their outstanding achievements, women* and other marginalized groups are often less visible in science. Statistically, they are less likely to be cited or invited to give lectures. In order to make female* scientists and their achievements more visible, they can, for example, be nominated for suitable prizes and awards.

In addition, there are a large number of prizes and awards that focus in particular on issues of equality, participation and diversity and recognize and reward commitment and special achievements in these areas.

Schnieder Prize JUNGE MACHERIN

With the "Schnieder Prize JUNGE MACHERIN"(YOUNG MAKER), acatech aims to promote female talent in the technical sciences and motivate them to continue their careers. The prize, which is endowed with 3,000 euros, is part of acatech's activities to promote gender equality in the technical sciences.
acatech members nominate female graduates of technical and scientific degree programs for the prize. The prerequisite is a Master's thesis with top marks that was completed no more than one year ago.
In addition to the prize money of 3,000 euros, the award winners are supported by mentoring. This involves an advisory and supportive relationship between an experienced scientist from the Academy and the sponsored student.

Women Informatics Thesis Award (WITA)

Every two years, the specialist group Women and Computer Science awards prizes for outstanding theses by female graduates of computer science or a degree course with a focus on computer science in order to make the achievements of young women in computer science visible and to offer committed women in IT an incentive to present themselves to a wider public.
Prizes are awarded for a Bachelor's and a Master's thesis that deal with innovative, socially relevant topics or new application methods. There is also a special prize for work on the social responsibility of technologies.
Each prize is endowed with 500 euros and also includes one year's free membership of the Women and Computer Science specialist group.

Elisabeth Selbert Prize

The Elisabeth Selbert Prize has been awarded by the Hessian state government since 1983 in recognition of outstanding achievements in the establishment and further development of equal opportunities for women and men. The prize is awarded to women and men who have made an outstanding contribution to the realization of equal rights for women and men through their achievements and their creative power for society.
The prize is awarded every two years and is endowed with 10,000 euros. Individual achievements, overall achievements, a life's work or a joint achievement for equal rights are eligible for the prize. The prize can be awarded to natural persons, associations of persons or legal entities.

Women's Advancement Award of the Philipps University Marburg

The Philipps-Universität Marburg Women's Advancement Prize is awarded to members or affiliates of the University of Marburg who have made a special commitment to the promotion of women in academic or non-academic fields.
The award, which is endowed with 2,500 euros, is presented publicly every two years.

Award for innovative projects to promote equality and diversity

The prize for innovative equality and diversity projects at Nürtingen-Geislingen University is awarded annually. Measures that implement the objectives of the equality plan are evaluated, whereby criteria such as relevance, sustainability, creativity, feasibility, transferability and continuity play a role.

Individuals or teams (members of the HfWU), university institutions and student initiatives can be honored.
The winners receive up to 2,500 euros to implement or continue the award-winning measures.
