Accessibility

EU Directive 2016/2102 requires public bodies to ensure that their websites and mobile applications are accessible. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about how and when we have assessed the accessibility of our website, what issues still exist, and what improvements we are planning.

Scope of the Declaration

This statement applies to all websites hosted on the University of Kassel's central web CMS system. 

Standard Applied

The accessibility design is based on the requirements of the Hessian Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology of September 16, 2019, as well as the Ordinance on the Creation of Accessible Information Technology under the Law on Equal Treatment of Persons with Disabilities (Accessible Information Technology Ordinance - BITV 2.0).

Current Status

The University of Kassel’s website has been tested for accessibility on several occasions and is considered to have limited accessibility. The assessment was conducted as a self-evaluation with support from third parties. 

Content That Is Not Accessible

  • The formatting of the subheadings may not comply with the content hierarchy guidelines. 
  • For web content, alternative descriptions for images and tables may be missing.
  • Alternative link labels may be missing for links. 
  • Embedded videos may be missing captions or transcripts. 
  • Documents may not be accessible. 
  • Texts may not be written in plain language.
  • Sign language explanations may be missing. 
  • Maps or directions may not include a text-only description. 

Justification

The University of Kassel maintains a very extensive website consisting of several thousand web pages. The vast majority of these pages were published before September 23, 2018. The website is currently being migrated to a new software version. As part of this process, the content and documents are being reviewed for accessibility and revised as necessary. This cannot be done immediately for all content and documents.
