Is a preliminary course offered for my degree program?

We offer special, course-related pre-courses for Mathematics, Spanish and Chemistry. The pre-course information pages are linked below the overview table. The courses usually start in September or early October. You can find an overview of all introductory events for your degree program on the respective degree program pages under the heading Introduction and Start of Studies.

To the preliminary courses

Mathematics pre-courses for science, mathematics and engineering degree programs and subjects (STEM subjects)

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers you the opportunity to take a free preliminary course in Mathematics before the start of your first semester. There are several mathematics pre-courses that are tailored to the respective degree program. The courses last between four and six weeks and take place before the actual start of lectures.

Mathematics pre-course for economics degree programmes and subjects (WIWI subjects)

The Faculty of Economics and Management (FB 07) offers the "Preliminary Mathematics Course (FB 07 - Wiwi)", which is aimed at most first-year students on degree programs in economics.

Spanish preliminary course

In order to be able to study successfully, it is important that you develop your language skills quickly after starting your studies so that you can use Spanish at level B1 without any problems.

we support you in this with special practical language courses, which are known as propaedeutic courses and are taught exclusively by native speakers: Within the first winter semester, you will reach level B1 through a combination of block courses and regular weekly sessions.

If you do not yet have language level B1, you can attend a preliminary course before the actual start of your studies.

Chemistry pre-course

Students of the plusMINT degree program can find their course on their degree program page.

Students on other degree programmes will have the opportunity to take a self-study online course from September.

Travel costs

Reimbursement travel expenses

All first-year students who attend a pre-course but have not received their semester ticket in time can buy a weekly trainee ticket from the NVV and have the costs reimbursed by the AStA - on presentation of a certificate of attendance. The semester ticket is valid from 01.03. or 01.09. of a year.
