"Universe on Tour": Prof. Thomas Giesen from Kassel presents current research projects in Fulda

Universe on Tour stops in Fulda from June 14 to 18, 2023. As part of the nationwide roadshow in the Science Year 2023 - Our Universe, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and its partners will be presenting current topics in the field of astronomy and astrophysics in a 75^m2 mobile planetarium. Prof. Thomas Giesen from the "Laboratory Astrophysics" working group in Kassel is one of the scientists involved who will be presenting current research projects during the tour stop in Fulda.

The planetarium will be set up on the Kaiserwiesen for two days from June 12 and will then be open to the public. From May to September, the "Universe on Tour" roadshow will travel to a total of 15 large and small towns to get citizens interested in space research. The tour is being organized as part of the Science Year 2023 - Our Universe, a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD). The Planetarium Berlin Foundation and the Astronomische Gesellschaft (AG) are responsible for the implementation and content design of "Universe on Tour".

In the planetarium tent, visitors travel into the depths of space during a 360-degree planetarium show. In an accompanying tent, guests can also visit an exhibition on the topic of "light" and find out what it reveals about the universe and what role gravitational waves play. Various stations provide information about the importance of light for astronomy - from radio waves to the light visible to us from the stars to gamma rays - and take a look at the nurseries of stars and planets. The "History of Astronomy and Observational Astronomy" working group at the University of Marburg, the "Laboratory Astrophysics" working group at the University of Kassel and the Sonneberg Observatory will also be presenting current research projects in the accompanying tent and in evening lectures.

Admission to the roadshow and the exhibition is free, but registration is requested due to lack of space. On the mornings in particular, school classes from year five upwards are cordially invited to visit the planetarium, discover how research works and explore the big questions of astrophysics.

Citizen research project "Night Light Stage
Anyone interested can also take part in the citizen science project Night Light Stage" by documenting light pollution in their area and providing the collected data for research. The guided walk starts on June 17, 2023 at 8 p.m. at the planetarium tent. No registration is necessary.
