Guest lecture and discussion: Current global structures of exploitation in agriculture (in english)

Guest lecture and discussion with Praveen Jha (in english)
(Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University)
This guest lecture will focus on how Global Value Systems (GVSs) have transformed agriculture in the wake of neoliberal capitalism. While production has increasingly shifted to the Global South, control remains with transnational corporations based in the Global North. These companies deliberately exploit differences in wage costs, environmental regulations and regulatory standards - a phenomenon known as "labour-nature-regulation arbitrage" - to maximize their profits.
A specific example from Haryana in northern India will be used to show how these mechanisms and processes play out on the ground. The lecture will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session.
