Event: INFRATURM ReBuild - Mixed reality technology meets sustainable building culture

With the project INFRATURM ReBuild students from the Faculty of Architecture Urban Planning Landscape Planning at the University of Kassel combine innovative digital work with sustainable construction and cultural commitment. The wooden construction, originally designed for the Hugenottenhaus art area, was successfully relocated to the Schlachthof cultural center in summer 2025 with the help of mixed reality technology. Interested visitors are cordially invited to the opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 23 at 7 pm.

Through the visual and interactive presentation of the flexible wooden construction with Mixed Reality (MR), the project group simulated the dismantling and reconstruction of the infratower in advance and developed a precise step-by-step strategy for the relocation to the BOREAL beer garden at the Schlachthof Cultural Center. The use of mixed reality made it possible, for example, to place and assemble new CNC-milled connecting plates with the existing timber framework elements. MR was also used to manufacture and adapt the new "Floating Curve" seating landscape to the geometry of the tower.

With the successful completion of the project, the Infraturm is now an integral part of the Boreal site. It acts as an identity-forming element and creates a new space for exchange, retreat and communal use - independent of events. The project exemplifies the responsible use of resources, the combination of digital innovation and craftsmanship as well as a creative approach to urban cultural spaces.
