Sustainable routes through Kassel

Our sustainability city plan is mentioned in the current issue of StadtZeit (No. 125, Sept/Oct/Nov 2025) . We are currently working on updating the sustainability city plan as part of a project funded by the UniKasselTransfer transfer booster.

The aim is to launch an updated "Sustainability City Plan 2.0" in October, which will show places of sustainability both in Kassel and in the active surrounding area of Kassel. The revision of the plan is once again being supported by "the sustainability community", which was set up as part of an SDG+ challenge. The group, which consists of the Initiative Gemeinwohlökonomie Kassel e.V., the Education for Sustainable Development department of the Office for Schools and Education of the City of Kassel, the world and regional store KARIBU Kassel and students and employees of the Green Office, came together at the initiative of the Green Office and has been driving the original idea forward since November 2023. Two student employees of the Green Office, Christoph Dai and Florian Grotstück, are in charge of coordinating the creation of the plan.

There are numerous initiatives, businesses and associations in Kassel and the surrounding area that are committed to a future worth living. The aim is to present these on the "Map of Tomorrow" and help more people in Kassel to get to know and use them in order to consume sustainably and consciously and to get involved in sustainability. Repair cafés, second-hand stores, organic food stores and bike rental stations are just a few of the examples that can be seen on the map.

There is also a list of criteria to help companies assess where they are on the road to sustainable development. The digital map: www.kartevonmorgen.org is linked to the analog map and contains even more entries; it is also updated regularly. To use it, the hashtag #kassel-karte_von_morgen should be added to the search.
