Nice here, in Kassel: Panel discussion on the future of the ring road around Kassel city center

As part of the SDG+ Lab at the University of Kassel, a panel discussion on the future of the ring road around Kassel's city center will take place on November 27 at 7 pm. The occasion is a holistic concept for its transformation, which was developed by several departments and students of the Faculty of ASL over a period of two years. Representatives of the city council factions and Gerhard Greiner, President of the Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners of Hesse, have been invited. The evening will be moderated by Prof. Stefan Rettich. Since last week, large-scale visualizations at Lutherplatz, Martinskirche, Brüderkirche, Ständeplatz and Holländischer Platz have been showing how the situation could change in concrete terms.

The car-friendly expansion of cities in Germany, which emerged 80 years ago on the ruins of the Second World War, is facing a transformation in many places: Hamburg is developing concepts for its main thoroughfares, Hanover for the conversion of the Cityring and Stuttgart is focusing on the redesign of the B14, south-east of the city center as a new urban space - everywhere there are plans for spaces with more greenery and for spending time, as well as for housing, work or culture in new areas. The automobile, for which the spaces were developed, should not disappear - but many traffic flows and places can also be organized differently in Kassel and designed with more trees and green spaces in such a way that people are once again more at the center of the urban environment and at the same time the increasing heat stress can be countered. And many new apartments and jobs could also be created here in a central location.
