Tropical greenhouse in Witzenhausen honored for educational work

On April 16, 2026, the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBSFJ) and the German UNESCO Commission presented the "National Award - Education for Sustainable Development". Among the honored institutions: the Tropical Greenhouse of the University of Kassel.

The 32 award-winning initiatives impress with innovative educational approaches that empower people to actively shape a sustainable and responsible future. The Witzenhausen Tropical Greenhouse also impressed the jury with its impressive commitment to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the United Nations' Global Sustainability Goals.

The "National Award - Education for Sustainable Development" recognizes organizations, networks and municipalities that are committed to shaping our society in a livable, sustainable way as part of the UNESCO ESD 2030 programme. Sustainable development means ensuring human dignity and equal opportunities for all in an intact environment.
