A Turning Point at the University? Civil Clauses in Times of Global Crises

The Civil Clause was enshrined in the University of Kassel’s Basic Statutes in 2013 and directs research, development, teaching, and academic studies toward civilian purposes. On July 1, the University Senate is scheduled to vote on a revised version of the civil clause that no longer explicitly references a focus on civilian purposes. As part of this event, we aim to create a space for discussion and scholarly reflection on this topic.
