Viviane Adam took over the professorship for Concrete and Masonry Structures at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering on January 1, 2026. She studied civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering at RWTH Aachen University and then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Concrete and Masonry Structures there. Here, her research focused on bridge reinforcement with carbon concrete, the recalculation of existing bridges made of reinforced and prestressed concrete and the shear force bearing behavior of reinforced concrete slabs - the topic to which her doctorate, completed in 2021, was also dedicated. She then worked as a senior engineer at the IMB at RWTH and, during her postdoc phase, took over the scientific coordination of the TRR 280 Collaborative Research Center with TU Dresden at the Aachen site.
At the University of Kassel, she is dedicated to sharing her enthusiasm for concrete structures with students and expanding her research into innovative materials, refined structural description and the reuse of structures. By focusing on more efficient use of resources, digital measurement and production methods and longer service lives for structures, she is setting the tone for sustainable construction.
