Objective

Establish standards for a good supervisory relationship in order to reduce doctoral drop-outs and encourage doctoral candidates to pursue their careers in the academic system

Brief description

The doctorate is a critical phase in an academic career. In order to establish a standard for a good supervisory relationship, the University of Kassel has drawn up guidelines for good supervision for supervisors of doctoral candidates. All doctoral candidates at the University of Kassel conclude an agreement with their supervisor, the so-called supervision agenda. This helps to align mutual expectations of the doctoral phase and to plan various aspects - such as conference participation and publication strategies - at an early stage. Completion of the supervision agenda is mandatory for acceptance as a doctoral candidate. Updating the supervision agenda on an annual basis is strongly recommended and is a prerequisite for contract extensions in the qualification phase.
