Objective

provide students with scientific analytical skills to recognize the emergence, impact and significance of gender relations in different social contexts and to demonstrate their application in practical areas

Brief description

The Gender Studies Programme at the University of Kassel was launched in the winter semester 2005/2006 as the Interdisciplinary Study Programme in Women's and Gender Studies. It offers students and doctoral candidates from all disciplines the opportunity to take advantage of a structured and interdisciplinary range of courses in the field of gender studies. They can acquire skills in the scientific analysis of intersectional gender relations as well as in the investigation of power, domination and inequality relations.

The study program consists of two modules:

Module 1: Theories and cultural constructions of gender
Module 2: Gender relations and strategies for action

Graduates of the study program receive a 12-credit certificate confirming their additional qualification in gender studies. Since its introduction, over 200 students have successfully completed the program and around 30 students enroll each year.

A detailed list of gender modules and certificates at German colleges and universities has been compiled by the NRW Network for Women's and Gender Studies:
