Statement on the events in Iran (as at: 10/2022)

The University of Kassel views with concern the spiral of violence in Iran and in particular the violent intrusion of the security forces into Sharif University in Tehran. We stand in solidarity with the teachers and students who are protesting for their freedom, human rights and dignity in the universities. Under pressure from the regime, they continue to stand up for the autonomy of teaching and research. Our deepest sympathy goes out to those people who were injured or severely traumatized during the protests in Iran and to the families of those who died. The University of Kassel calls for an end to the violence and the continued violation of human rights. We join Amnesty International and others in calling for an independent and international investigation to identify those responsible for human rights violations and hold them accountable.(www.amnesty.de)

They continue to stand up for the autonomy of teaching and research under the pressure of the regime.
