FoSS: Strong vocation instead of strong (working) conditions: How vocation is used to keep broken systems running

Sociological studies have shown that flexibility and deregulation on the one hand and security on the other alternate in importance like a "pendulum"; we are currently in a time of deregulation.
Interestingly, there are professions that, despite increasing demand for skilled workers, have seen their conditions deteriorate for years and now have to "import" foreign workers, such as nurses and geriatric nurses. However, instead of trying to improve conditions for society as a whole, it is becoming apparent that many professions are instead only being kept going by people who feel called to that very profession, which paradoxically makes conditions even worse.
