EXPANDED FILM MUSIC PERFORMANCE

On this evening, students from the Institute of Music at the University of Kassel and the Kunsthochschule will present jointly developed experimental short films with self-composed and improvised music and sound design.

The films are the result of a cooperation between the seminar "Writing Film Music" of the Institute of Music at the University of Kassel (Roman Beilharz) and the participants of the "Praxis-Werkstatt-Film" of the art academy class "Film and Moving Image" (Prof. Jan Peters).

For this event in the winter semester 2021/22, the students of the Kunsthochschule shot analog 16mm films with a spring-loaded camera with a wind-up motor without sound, developed some of the analog film material themselves with instant coffee, vitamin C and washing soda and had some of it developed in color in the film lab. In the summer semester 2022, the resulting material was presented to the students from the Institute of Music and sound and music ideas for the respective works were developed together with the musician, composer and inventor Pit Przygodda. This allowed image and sound to inspire each other at every stage and the intensive collaboration between image and sound creators became the central content of the mediation.
