Stefan Greif (✝)

Greif (9.3.1961 - 4.8.2025) researched and taught in Kassel since 2007 as Professor of Modern German Literature. His wide-ranging research interests included the literature of the 18th century from the Enlightenment to the Classical period. He made outstanding contributions to research on Goethe, Herder and Forster. For many years he was chairman of the Georg Forster Society and a member of the board of the Goethe Society in Kassel. Another major focus of his academic work was on the present, in particular pop literature and theory, but also on the connection between contemporary music, culture and literature. He not only offered seminars on Goethe's "Faust II", the "West-Eastern Divan" or his "Campaign in France", but also events on rock culture and the climate discourse.

He also took particular pleasure in his work as a liaison lecturer for the Ev. Studienwerk Villigst.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Greif was a great Germanist who not only impressed us with his intellectual acumen and wide-ranging knowledge, but also enriched our university with his likeable, pleasant personality. He leaves a huge gap as a researcher, teacher and colleague.
