Prof. Jeremy Michael Couillard

On October 1, 2025, Jeremy Michael Couillard took over the professorship for games at the School of Art and Design in Kassel. In 2012, Couillard earned a Master's degree in Fine Arts at Columbia University in New York. At the same time, he worked as a freelancer in the field of 3D visualization and web design until 2014. In 2016, he was appointed Program Director of New Media at LaGuardia Community College in New York. From 2023 to 2025, he was Professor of New Media there and developed games for public spaces and art installations, among other things.

In his works, Couillard often uses humorous narratives about dystopias to explore what motivates people to work, live and create. His performances and game installations have been shown in art galleries, festivals and museums in the United States and Europe. His latest project, the video game "Escape from Lavender Island", was released on the digital gaming platform Steam and was the focus of an exhibition at the List Center at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) in Boston.

At the University of Kassel, Couillard focuses his research and teaching on topics such as game design, rapid prototype development as well as criticism and contextualization of game projects.
