Sustainability projects with impact

"Contemporary Lighthouses for Sustainability in Kassel and Northern Hesse" is a new anthology with contributions and interviews that presents potential sustainability projects with charisma. The starting point was the second SDG+ Dialogue of the same name from October 2024 to January 2025. The book will be presented on October 22 at Uni:Lokal.

The aim of this anthology is to inspire people to make their own mark that shines far beyond the present day. "Lighthouses" are a metaphor for outstanding projects with radiance that provide orientation and show what change can mean. The result is possible but feasible proposals that clearly show how science, business, culture and civil society can jointly think about and promote the transformation of North Hesse. Kassel and North Hesse have so far lacked these shining/radiant signs in the field of sustainability, but at the same time the city is bursting with potential in terms of sustainability: embedded in a rich natural landscape and equipped with scientific and industrial stars in the field of environmental economics, there are both diverse competencies and resources for sustainable profile building in the region.

The publication was created as part of the SDG+ Dialogue, a module in which decision-makers from administration, business, science and society from the North Hesse region meet to discuss key ideas and forge implementation alliances. The SDG+ Dialogue is one of five modules of the SDG+ Lab, the sustainability laboratory of the University of Kassel. The project will be funded from 2023 to 2027 as part of the federal-state initiative.

The anthology "Contemporary Lighthouses for Sustainability in Kassel and Northern Hesse" will be presented on Wednesday, October 22, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at Uni:Lokal, Wilhelmsstraße 21, 34117 by, among others: Prof. Dr. Andreas Hoffmann (documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH), Dr. Hans-Friedrich Breithaupt (IHK, Unternehmensallianz Klimaschutz und Nachhaltigkeit), Prof. Dr. Ulrike Jordan (FG Solar- & Anlagentechnik, University of Kassel), Kai-Georg Bachmann (Regionalmanagement Nordhessen) moderated by Dr. Susanne Völker, Maximilian Spiegelberg, Katharina Leinius and Daniel Opper from the SDG+ Lab.
