Start of the theme year "Transformations in work and business"

In the new exhibition "Value creation and appreciation - renegotiating work and the economy" at Uni:Lokal, 10,000 so-called soldier fly larvae show how waste is returned to the cycle as food. The opening on October 29 from 6 p.m. is also the start of the new theme year and, with the sound performance by Elko Braas and the hands-on exhibition, offers a foretaste of an SDG+ Lab theme year that invites you to smell, feel, taste and listen with numerous events.

Visitors to the exhibition from October 30 will become employees themselves. Equipped with a work vest and collection catalog, visitors will stamp in. The focus is on values, materials and cycles. Who decides what is valued?

With the exhibition, curator Florian Bremer opens up the view for alternative models to previous value chains. Instead of produce - use - throw away, the focus is on cycles, reuse, sharing and the revaluation of materials. With concrete examples, walks and encounters, the exhibition provides encouragement and invites visitors to get involved. Visitors discover where they can get involved and where they are already part of a sustainable North Hesse.

In theme year 3 "Transformations in work and business", the SDG+ Lab focuses attention on a range of decentralized, socially inclusive and alternative approaches to a sustainable and circular economy and makes them accessible and tangible to the public. Workshops on biochar, food upcycling, wool, mushrooms and games evenings offer various opportunities to participate and experience. Prof. Dr. Susanne Ritzmann, Department of Sustainable Product Design and Development, and Prof. Dr. Anna Growe, Department of Economics of Urban and Regional Development, have brought together many different specialist perspectives from the University of Kassel and beyond as content managers of the theme year.

Background:
With the SDG+ Lab, UniKasselTransfer is developing a laboratory for sustainability issues as a platform for exchange between science, politics, business and civil society. Along the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations, practical solutions and innovations for the North Hesse region will be jointly developed. The project is funded by the federal-state initiative "Innovative University" from 2023-2027.
