Uni Kassel reaches top ten in the medal table at Taekwon-Do championships

The Taekwon-Do group from the University of Kassel's general university sports team won a total of ten podium places at the German Championships in Rees on April 18, 2026. With four gold, three silver and three bronze medals, the team took seventh place in the overall ranking of the 26 participating clubs.

252 athletes took part in the tournament organized by the Traditional Taekwondo Association. The eight-strong Kassel delegation, led by coach Klaus Saurwein (7th Dan, Grand Master), competed in the disciplines of form running (Tul), synchronized Tul and breaking test (Kyokpa).

The debutants Dominik Kalinowski and Charlotte Freymuth (both 8th Kup, yellow belt) were particularly successful, winning gold together in the synchronized competition as well as further individual medals in gold, silver and bronze. Andrea Wilhelm (6th Kup, green belt) also made it onto the podium with gold in the Tul competition, as did Luca Scholz (8th Kup) and Tobias Schäfer (1st Dan, black belt), who secured placings in the breaking test and form running categories.

With this overall result, the Taekwon-Do group at the University of Kassel is continuing its positive sporting development.
