Exhibition of the Results of the “My Place – Write the Future” Project
The future is shaped by possibilities. What we believe is possible is influenced by stories—by narratives. What if we could write stories that help us shape the future?
The “Mein Ort – Schreib Zukunft” project is a collaboration between the SDG+ Lab at the University of Kassel, the Department of German as a Second Language at the University of Kassel, and the Adult Education Center of the Kassel Region. Over the past year, these partners have developed writing workshops under the project name mentioned above to connect people in the region, raise awareness of sustainability-related issues, encourage them to write about these topics, and thereby bring about transformation for the local community and the region.
The writing workshops appealed to a diverse range of target groups, including seniors, students, rural women, and/or people with an immigrant background, who explored their visions of the future in the workshops and expressed them through writing. The resulting texts and perspectives reveal different viewpoints on the future while also offering insights into the potential of participatory formats at the intersection of education, social transformation, and regional development.
To make the results accessible and visible beyond the participating stakeholders, a traveling exhibition was designed. After having been on display at the participating schools, community centers, and the adult education center, it will now be exhibited from November 11 through December 2 in the foyer at Kurt-Wolters-Straße 5, Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies. This exhibition showcases the written works and the perspectives they express regarding the development of the local area and region, while also offering insights into the collaboration between university and non-university stakeholders.
