Over 1,000 visitors at the STEM Hands-On Saturday

The fourth MINT-Mach-Samstag took place at the University of Kassel on Saturday, May 30, and was very well received. More than 1,000 visitors took the opportunity to experience the fascinating world of Mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (MINT) up close. On the campus on Wilhelmshöher Allee, more than 20 exhibitors from universities, the business community, schools, and regional institutions presented a diverse program of hands-on activities for children, teens, and families.

At numerous stations, visitors experimented, built, programmed, and discovered. Whether it was 3D printing, driving simulators, materials experiments, hands-on electrical engineering, or puzzles and games of skill related to Mathematics—visitors were able to explore STEM topics in a playful way and get actively involved themselves. The goal of the event was to spark curiosity, break down barriers, and get young people excited about scientific and technical topics.

STEM Hands-On Saturday was organized by the University of Kassel’s STEM Hub and impressively demonstrated how successfully the collaboration between the university, companies, schools, and extracurricular educational partners works. The large number of hands-on activities highlighted the diversity of STEM subjects and provided practical insights into potential paths for professional training and careers.

A lively atmosphere prevailed on campus throughout the day, and many families spent several hours there trying out the various activities and talking with researchers and students from the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering/Computer Science, and Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as representatives from the participating institutions.

The event’s popularity demonstrates the sustained high level of interest in accessible and hands-on STEM activities. STEM Action Saturday thus makes an important contribution to fostering the next generation of scientists and strengthening STEM education in the region.
