More first-year students, more international students
Image: Milan Soremski. This means that the number of first-year students increased for the third semester in a row. In addition to the increased number of students from abroad, a whole range of new degree programs also contributed to the growth. The final figures (so-called "cut-off date figures") thus confirm the preliminary data that was available at the start of the lecture period.
According to these figures, there will be a 2.6% increase in the number of first-year students (students in their first study semester) in the winter semester 2025/26, namely 4,775 compared to 4,652 in the previous year. As a large number of students completed their studies at the same time, the total number of enrolled students fell slightly to 21,131 (21,352, a decrease of 1.0%). The number of students in the standard period of study increased to 12,789 (12,735, up 0.4 percent).
The number of international students has also risen: 3,357 people have a foreign passport (2024: 3,104). At 16 percent, the proportion is higher than ever before. Looking at the narrower group of so-called Bildungsauslaender (i.e. those with a foreign higher education entrance qualification), the number rose to 2,588 (from 2,344 last year). This is more than ever before.
279 people enrolled on one of the eleven degree programs offered for the first time this semester. Nine of the programs have a sustainability focus, and one Bachelor's and one Master's program were also added in the new subject of Business Information Systems.
