Noticeable improvement due to increase

More space for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FB 15): The northern part of the Engineering Sciences III building on the Holländischer Platz campus on Georg-Forster-Straße has been extended. This has created an additional 900 square meters of usable space for offices, seminar rooms and laboratories, which meet the new legal requirements in terms of energy efficiency. The extension is also equipped with a modern photovoltaic system that generates renewable energy for its own consumption. The following Faculty of Mechanical Engineering departments move into the new premises, which were put into operation as planned:

• Granularity of structural information in materials engineering
• Extreme light for material structures
• Project management in the digital transformation
• Quality and process management

The construction project began in spring 2024, with the Department of Construction and Facilities Management assuming full responsibility.

Chancellor Dr. Oliver Fromm is delighted with the successful extension: "The extension is also visually a great success and it's great that our construction department was able to complete it so quickly. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering's departments, which were previously located in the AVZ and the Hansa Houses, will now also be spatially integrated into the Faculty and the conditions for staff and students in research and teaching will be noticeably improved."

Engineering III was already extended by one floor in the southern section between 2014 and 2016.
